President's Message

July 31, 2022

Dear PNAMC officers, committee chairs, co-chairs, and members:

The time has come to bid farewell to the end of our most challenging term of 2020-2022. Despite of this era of the pandemic, we have faced many obstacles but successfully overcome them. We are proud to say that we had accomplished many things to the betterment of our organization. PNA Maryland is shining, sparkling with visibility as evidenced by the many awards and recognitions that we gathered throughout the past two years. This is because you and I have made a difference in our community through our health fairs, first aid booths, visits and donations to the homeless, teachings related to covid, flu shots, breast cancer awareness and wellness activities thru 5 K walks and zhumbas, care packages for our front line nurses, educational events such as resilience, career wellness, and compassion fatigue, not to mention our donations to the Maryland food bank and St. Jude Children Cancer Center and the Baltimore’s Early Learning School. Also to mention our extraordinary efforts to donate to the victims of typhoons and floods in the Philippines as well as extensive planning for our medical missions which was temporarily halted due to the pandemic but has resumed and being realized in 2023. We continue to advocate and collaborate with our civic organizations through the Katipunan and the Filipino Council of the Archdiocese of Baltimore and others as we participated at the annual fiestas and Simbang Gabi events. Fundraising was always a challenge but we pursued and not discouraged and we remained financially viable. Supporting the other Eastern region chapters strengthened our mentoring skills as we had three of our members graduated the PNAA’s Leadership Development Program: Griely Persia, Erna Pollicar, and Mary Dedeen Womer. Reaching to other leaders in the various hospitals made us more engaged with our members while recruitment was continuously improving and exceeding our goal. We had made changes with our ByLaws and policy and procedure, a testament to the consistency of improved flow of responsibility, mentoring and accountability including the support of our past presidents and the ever loyalty group. Time has passed quickly, oh what fun it was, dancing at the Christmas gala and recognizing our outstanding nurses in practice. So then here comes the national convention, ready to give us feedback on our performance.

What better way to end this era with the following PNAA National Excellence Awards:

1.Top Chapter Recruiter Award for 2021 and also for 2022

2. PNAA Century Club Award for Membership in 2021 and also for 2022

3. PNAA National Excellence Award for the Nurse Educator in 2021 to Maria Sheilla Membrebe, MSN/ED, CMSRN; in 2022 to Jade Borromeo Flinn, MSN, CCRN
